Hippos or "river horse" are very territorial but when you see how adorable their babies are can you blame them! They share much of their watery home with crocs and their grazing land territory with all sorts of nocturnal predators including lions and hyenas. Hippos are considered omnivours, because they will eat drowned animals if crocs are not present, however despite popular belief when they attack it is due to territorial behavior, not because they crave meat. Hippos and their closest relative the pygmy hippos are found only in Africa. Their next closest relative are the whales!
