Well much to say as I grew up with these! Aligator snapping turtles are some of the largest turtles in the world, the largest in America. They can stay underwater for 40 minutes at a time, using their gaping mouths and bright pink tongue as a lure for prey. They can live for 100 years plus and grow to be a whopping 175 lbs! My encounters with these have been frightening, as I removed one from a highway under great strain from it's weight and terror at the fact it's neck came out far farther than I originally thought it could and nearly ruined my art hand o_O So if you find an aligator snapping turtle in trouble take care, for they can defend themselves!
