They looks so deceptively cuddly at rest! This pair reside at Bush gardens in Tampa Florida.

Lions sleep up to 20 hours a day.

A male African lion can weight up to 550 lbs!

There is also a critically endangered "Indian Lion" but the males have much smaller manes.

These are the only documented "true social cats" staying in a pack or "pride" through out their life with the exception of rogue males out to make or take over a pride of their own.

Until the late Pleistocene, which was about 10,000 years ago, the lion was the most widespread large land mammal after humans. They were found in most of Africa, much of Eurasia from western Europe to India, and in the Americas from the Yukon to Peru.

Ironically this happened just a few minutes ago but my dog was asleep with her eyes wide open and started chasing something in a dream.... we thought she was having a seizure, talk about scaring the crap out of us! lol sorry, only partcially relevant

Hahaha! awh bless her. I always wake my other dog up when she's dreaming for the exact same reason! She whimpers in such a bizarre way it scares me. And I always end up getting dirty looks too. Im like 'I was only checking your alive!'

jeeze just dont get the deserved appreciation sometimes
